- ➤ Mercy Hospital Southeast welcomed its first baby of 2026 on New Year's Day at 12:32 a.m. when Emma Jean Kaufman gave birth to baby girl Leora Diane. The mother, from Catholic Charities' LifeHouse Crisis Maternity Home, said she was excited for a healthy start. Fox 23

- ➤ Minglewood Brewery announced it will close after 11 years on Jan. 18 and thanked the community for its support during celebrations and everyday gatherings. Fox 23
- ➤ Local Minglewood Brewery in Cape Girardeau will close its doors on Jan. 18 after 11 years of service. It announced its decision on Jan. 5 and thanked the community for shared memories. KFVS12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A precautionary boil water advisory is in effect for 429 addresses near Cape Girardeau's boundaries until 2 p.m. Jan. 7 after a water line was struck during private construction — residents should boil water for at least three minutes for drinking, cooking, and washing dishes. Fox 23
- ➤ Missouri public safety agencies can submit nominations by Feb. 28 for 2025 awards honoring first responders. The awards, which include a civilian honor, will be presented in Jefferson City in late 2026 (forms and details are available online). Fox 23
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Officials issued a boil water advisory for 429 addresses near the city limits after a water line was hit during construction. The advisory remains in effect until Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 2 p.m. for residents near Boutin Drive (among other streets). KFVS12
- ➤ Many in Cape Girardeau are starting the new year by setting healthier nutrition goals, as 22 percent of Americans resolved to eat better. Registered dietician (Laura Vollink) advises setting flexible goals and checking progress in a month or two to overcome daily challenges. KFVS12
- ➤ Saint Francis Healthcare System in Cape Girardeau celebrated the arrival of its first baby born in 2026; hospital officials congratulated the family on this joyful start (a milestone for the new year). Fox 23
- ➤ Mercy Health Foundation Southeast is set to host its 10th Journey Gala 2026, titled My Big Greek Gala, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Drury Plaza Conference Center (3351 Percy Drive). It will benefit the Mercy Cancer Center and feature auctions and live music. KFVS12
