COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau needs more volunteers for its warming center as temperatures drop, with operations ongoing since November+ residents can sign up online to support the service.  KFVS12
  • Southeast Missouri Pets announced its 50th anniversary in 2026 by planning a yearlong celebration featuring community events, commemorative membership packages, and a special milestone gathering for supporters, adopters, and volunteers. The animal welfare organization has served Cape Girardeau since 1976 & continues to provide shelter and care for local animals.  Fox 23

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cape Girardeau Regional Airport will add twice-weekly flights to Pensacola in May in response to community demand, with service running through September and official flight dates announced on Jan. 21.  KFVS12
  • Seabaugh’s Locksmith marked its 12th anniversary with a ribbon cutting hosted by the Jackson Chamber of Commerce in Jackson. The locally owned business now provides locksmith services throughout Southeast Missouri and has grown steadily over the past 12 years.  Fox 23

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Crisp Museum invites families to join LEGO Fun Day on Jan. 24. The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and features LEGO themed storytelling, interactive games and a scavenger hunt (all materials provided).  KFVS12

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Missouri Department of Conservation announced trout harvest opens Sunday, Feb. 1 at four southeast Missouri lakes — Rotary Lake in Jackson, Legion Lake in Perryville, Recreation Pond in Sikeston, and Capaha Park Lake in Cape Girardeau. Anglers can use any bait and keep four trout per day, though weather may affect turnout.  Fox 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City crews led by Fronabarger Concreters are repairing South Sprigg Street between Route 74 and the Southern Expressway, replacing concrete panels and a 104-year-old water main with new curbs, gutters, and sidewalks — work funded by the city’s Transportation Trust Fund sales tax.  Fox 23
  • Cape Girardeau Regional Airport is nearing eligibility for up to $1 million in FAA funding as it approaches 10,000 enplanements this fiscal year; funds will support taxiway improvements that were planned after bid estimates exceeded original budgets, according to airport manager JoJo Stuart.  KFVS12
