- ➤ Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation thanked the Cape Girardeau County Rotary Club for donating a new shelter at Walker Park. The club purchased and installed the shelter + improving amenities for local visitors. Fox 23
- ➤ The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Foundation will host the free 2026 Cardinals Caravan on January 19 at the Osage Centre, featuring Cardinals players and broadcaster Polo Ascencio as emcee (doors open at 4:30 p.m.). The event includes discussion, prizes, a Q&A session, wiffleball, and signings for first 400 kids. KFVS12
- ➤ Spread Hope Now announced plans to build a new home in Sikeston — adjacent to its Journey House — to expand foster care services for children. Construction will begin soon as the nonprofit responds to rising demand for safe temporary placements. Fox 23
- ➤ BBQ Bash returns Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Show Me Center with live demos, music, games and food samples. Ticket prices are $14.50 for ages 6 to 12 plus $36 for adults while children under 5 enter free; the event supports Badges Give Back for local first responders. KFVS12

- ➤ At Shawnee Community College's new facility, Gemma Renewable Power donated $25,000 Thursday to fund career and technical education scholarships for students + the gift will expand workforce training opportunities. Fox 23

- ➤ Gordonville Fire Protection District received a $5,000 grant from FM to boost pre-incident planning and improve emergency preparedness in Cape Girardeau (the funding helps reduce risks of severe property damage). Fox 23
- ➤ KYTC will close the U.S. 51 Ohio River 'Cairo' Bridge on Jan. 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for inspections — use an alternate route. Jackson’s crew will begin a roundabout project at Route 61 and Deerwood Drive on Jan. 28 with lane reductions until May 29. Fox 23
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ State health officials say that school vaccination rules remain unchanged after the CDC revised its vaccine guidance, so students must continue to get their required meningococcal & hepatitis B shots for enrollment. Local agencies confirm that legislative changes are needed to alter these requirements. KFVS12
