  • John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff will host Valentines for Veterans concert on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 5 p.m. at Black River Coliseum featuring Ricochet & Billy Yates, with free tickets for veterans & family.  KFVS12
  • Southeast Missouri Pets ran out of adult dog food on Friday, Jan. 16 — sparking community donations of Purina products at the 180 Weston St. facility; families dropped off supplies over the weekend, and the shelter still requests puppy food, leashes, and blankets as freezing weather persists.  KFVS12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development advises students and families to file the FAFSA before Feb. 2 for the Access Missouri Grant. Southeast Missouri State University (SMSU) is hosting free workshops to help with college aid options.  KFVS12
  • Perry County School District 32 presented preliminary plans Saturday for rebuilding Perryville High School at the Robinson Event Center after a March 14, 2025 tornado damaged the building.   • Perry County earned the StormReady designation on Jan. 15 after meeting strict national criteria for severe weather planning — local officials credited emergency personnel for their round-the-year efforts.  Fox 23

  • The American Red Cross reported a severe blood shortage caused by winter weather and a flu outbreak that reduced donations by 35% after over 400 blood drives were canceled (officials urge eligible donors to schedule appointments).  KFVS12
