- ➤ Southeast Missouri Food Bank launches its annual 'You CAN Fight Hunger' canned food drive in February, calling on community members to drop off shelf-stable donations at participating locations including businesses, schools, banks & community organizations. The effort aims to help local pantries serve nearly 80,000 residents each month. Fox 23
- ➤ After four snow days shut schools, families in Cape Girardeau visited the Discovery Playhouse to let kids burn energy with sensory toys and climbing stations. The center offers safe, engaging activities & dress-up areas that give parents a well-needed break. KFVS12
- ➤ United Way of Southeast Missouri will accept grant applications from eligible nonprofits from Feb. 2 to Feb. 27 — with focus on youth, healthy community, resiliency and income stability. A public presentation meeting is scheduled for Mar. 26 at 16 N. Spanish St. in Cape Girardeau. Fox 23
- ➤ During last weekend’s snowstorm, Gordonville Fire Protection District answered seven calls for fires, wrecks, and injuries on icy roads—fire chief Michael Gentry said each member, including neighbors and teachers, was ready to serve and a $5,000 grant will fund better pre-planning for safety. - ➤ Old Town Cape completed a Façade Improvement Grant project at Riverside Pottery by installing a new exterior walkway downtown. Officials said the update is part of ongoing efforts to boost local business and community pride with additional projects to be announced soon. Fox 23

- ➤ Friends of Fort D have restored George, a 160-year-old Civil War cannon recovered from a ditch and now on display at Fort D, to educate locals about the sacrifices made during that era + honor our rich heritage. KFVS12
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Southeast Missouri State University has been named to U.S. News Best Online Programs, earning top rankings including first for its online Master’s in Criminal Justice. Enrollment for select programs will begin on March 5. KFVS12
