COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Two churches in Sikeston and Jackson will host Night to Shine proms on Friday, Feb. 13, from 6 to 9 p.m., featuring dancing, food, photos, hair and makeup, and shoe shining (with comfort dogs and a sensory room at the Jackson event) for participants aged 14 and older. KFVS12
- ➤ Eligible nonprofits can apply for a grant of up to $2,000 with a total of $5,000 available for organizations in Bollinger, Cape Girardeau and northern Scott Counties — applications are accepted through March 2. KFVS12
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Codefi Foundation announced a relaunch of its programs with a new AI-driven approach that will expand training and startup support across Missouri, including rural communities. The move follows a yearlong review and leadership changes to keep costs low for local participants. Fox 23
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Cape Public Schools has secured an Opioid settlement grant to build a recovery high school for students who struggle with substance use. The school will open in August in a temporary building and later be located on Independence Street to offer traditional education and recovery support. Fox 23
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Cape Girardeau Historic Preservation Commission is now taking nominations for its 2026 Endangered Buildings List until March 6. The review will happen on March 18 and the list will be adopted on April 15 during a public meeting at City Hall (44 North Lorimer Street). KFVS12
- ➤ Missouri Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 + discuss intersection improvements near Matthews at the Nutrition Center, 301 W. Main St. Construction may start as early as June 2027 and last about nine months. Fox 23
