COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Cape Girardeau’s SEMO Theater and Dance Restaurant Hop will feature food samples from a dozen local establishments on March 24 (4:30 - 7:30 p.m.) to raise funds for SEMO students, with theater and dance students available to assist patrons.  KFVS12
  • AAA assisted 14,533 drivers across Missouri during a winter storm from Jan. 24 to Jan. 31, with Monday, Jan. 26 being the busiest day as battery service + tows were the most common calls. AAA advises drivers to slow down and move over for safety.  Fox 23
  • The Cape Area Community Foundation is accepting nonprofit grant applications for its 2026 cycle until March 2 — nonprofits may apply online for grants up to $2,000 to support programs in Bollinger, Cape Girardeau and northern Scott counties.  Fox 23

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters from the Steele Fire Department contained a structure fire on Polk Street on Feb. 4 before midnight, and heavy flames did not spread despite intense conditions — no injuries were reported and local support arrived from the Cooter Volunteer Fire Department to assist those displaced.  Fox 23

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to welcome George’s Chicken — a new family-friendly restaurant in downtown that will serve made-to-order comfort food. The restaurant is expected to open in the coming weeks.  Fox 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Cape Girardeau Historic Preservation Commission is accepting nominations for its 2026 Endangered Buildings List with entries due by March 6. Nominees must include a location, details, and a photo, and the commission will review submissions on March 18 before adopting the list at City Hall on April 15.  Fox 23

SPORTS NEWS

  • Missouri sports betting readies for Super Bowl 60 as Century Casino's Bet MGM Sportsbook in Cape Girardeau offers a $250 drawing for every touchdown scored. Lyle Randolph expects record wagers (with a 27% increase predicted) that will bolster education funding.  Fox 23
  • Missouri sports betting will face its biggest test yet as the Super Bowl nears at Century Casino Cape Girardeau, where the BetMGM Sportsbook will offer a $250 drawing for each touchdown scored + a range of in-game wagers to help fund education.  Fox 23
