- ➤ The Community Counseling Center Foundation hosted its annual 'Superheroes Have a Heart for Kids' luncheon Thursday & thanked sponsors, board members and volunteers for their support of children’s mental health services. Proceeds will fund community programs for kids. Fox 23
- ➤ PKCC will host a teen dating violence program for caregivers Tuesday, Feb. 24 at First Church of God in East Prairie from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A family event with crafts and games will run Saturday, Feb. 21 at United Methodist Church in Charleston from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Fox 23
- ➤ The Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau Area Foundation will host its annual flea market fundraiser, where residents can shop for discounted items + support programs benefiting local women. Organizers urge everyone to attend and spread the word. Fox 23
- ➤ The Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce, Cape Noon Optimist Club and Parks and Recreation held a ribbon cutting on Thursday at Arena Park to celebrate the new Wheel Park addition, which provides space for children and teens to skate, ride and play; officials thanked community members for their support. - ➤ Central Elementary is using The Walking Classroom program to help students blend physical activity and learning. The program offers 20-minute outdoor sessions with audio lessons and interactive activities — all designed to boost focus and understanding for grades 3 to 8. Fox 23
- ➤ Eugene Field Elementary School earned state Gold Star recognition after meeting academic targets just days before federal officials ended the Blue Ribbon program, and the school held a recognition dinner on Feb. 12 at Westwood Center. Fox 23
- ➤ Charleston R-I Superintendent Jamarcus Williams met with state lawmakers in Jefferson City to discuss education funding and workforce development for Southeast Missouri schools—he joined Charleston native Alana Mills and district representatives to ensure the region's needs are prioritized. - ➤ Starting February 23, Jackson will reduce Highway 61 north to one lane at Deerwood Drive and close East Deerwood Drive at Hubble Creek, forcing detours (Francis Drive and Route Y) to the Civic Center and Connection Point Church. Janet Sanders of Public Works advises extra travel time. KFVS12
- ➤ Rep. Jason Smith met with SEMO REDI leaders from Jackson, Marble Hill, Scott City and Cape Girardeau this week to discuss workforce training, housing and rural health care improvements.
