- ➤ In 2025, the Salvation Army food pantries in Marion and Centralia served 7,518 households (17,092 people and 4,181 children) as demand rose, and the group continued expanding programs while inviting community and business support to sustain operations. Fox 23
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Notre Dame Regional High School announced that senior Nicholas Dial is a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program. He will compete for scholarships in spring while school officials celebrated his academic achievement. Fox 23
- ➤ SEMO will honor late mass media professor Dr. Pam Parry (a beloved educator) with a campus memorial featuring a swinging bench and flower garden that will be completed by the end of the spring semester. KFVS12
- ➤ On Monday, Feb. 23, the Perry County School District 32 board approved Lacey Amschler as principal and Michael-Ann Kellerman as assistant principal, set to begin the 2026-27 school year. Both educators bring local experience to their roles. Fox 23
- ➤ Four St. Vincent High School students (Lily, Carter, Austin, and Tristin) took part in the SEMO Honors Band at Southeast Missouri State University, where they participated in sight-reading sessions, rehearsals, and an evening performance in Bedell Hall under guest clinicians Randell Bertsche and James David. - ➤ Saxony Lutheran High School cut the ribbon on its new Agriculture Science and Multipurpose Building on Tuesday in front of students; Principal Mark Ruark and Agriculture instructor (FFA adviser Brittany Ladd) led the celebration with the new classroom and workshop facility. KFVS12

- ➤ Backyard bird watchers in Cape Girardeau should ready feeders as hummingbirds begin their annual northward migration from Mexico and Central America. Early arrivals appear April 1-15 in southern areas (later sightings by April 30) while a 1:4 sugar-water mix (no red dye) fuels their journey. KFVS12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Parma Department of Public Safety has issued a no burn order that bans all outdoor fires due to weather and water supply concerns. Violators will receive court summonses, and officials will update residents when conditions improve. Fox 23

- ➤ SEMO Redhawks will host a Donate Life basketball doubleheader tomorrow at the Show Me Center in partnership with Mid-America Transplant — the women’s game is at 5:15 p.m. and the men’s game starts at 7:30 p.m., with free tickets available for registered donors via the athletics website. Fox 23
