COMMUNITY NEWS

  • MDC Cape Girardeau Nature Center will host four interactive events this March + offer a mushroom identification session on March 6 from 5 to 7:30 p.m., a yoga class on March 25, a trout cooking demo on March 26, and a guided hike on March 28.  KFVS12
  • Local veterans at the VFW share their concern over the ongoing Iran conflict and recall past deployments as they support active service members + hope that new troops will honor our nation's legacy.  KFVS12

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Global oil prices are rising due to Iran tensions, and AAA says seasonal fuel changes might push gas prices higher for local motorists. Consumers should compare prices between stations + look for small differences that affect the overall cost.  Fox 23

EDUCATION NEWS

  • District officials will return the central office to campus nearly a year after the March 2025 tornado; beginning Monday, Mar. 9, it will be at Perryville Primary Center's lower level with public access at the rear and hours from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. (the space will later become classrooms).  Fox 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ameren officials detailed upgrades to the electric grid — including a substation serving 1,500 customers and storm-hardened lines — planned to boost reliability in Cape Girardeau ahead of spring storms. The measures were highlighted during Severe Weather Preparedness Week, which began Monday, Mar. 2.  KFVS12
  • County leaders updated improvement projects at Cape County Park North today. Sidewalk improvements, parking expansion, and a new Limbaugh Lane entrance may alter traffic while the disc golf course is suspended until mid-summer — Veterans Memorial Plaza is expected to finish by summer 2026.  KFVS12
  • Cape Girardeau City Council approved plans to redevelop the old Sears Grand building and surrounding areas on Monday, March 2. Mayor Kinder said the project will start immediately with work near Target first and could add over $13 million in tax revenue over the next decade.  KFVS12

HEALTH NEWS

  • Residents will lose an hour of sleep Saturday night when Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 8. Dr. Bradley K. Bittle from Cape Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine advises shifting bedtime 15 to 20 minutes earlier each day and enjoying morning sunlight — a simple plan to ease the transition.  KFVS12

SPORTS NEWS

  • Nearly 2,000 anglers gathered at Montauk State Park for Missouri's catch-and-keep trout season opener on March 1. Jean and James Morton fired a traditional starter pistol after staff stocked 7,500 rainbow trout from the Montauk Fish Hatchery.  Fox 23
