- ➤ The Southeast Missouri Food Bank is calling on residents to volunteer in April with extra Saturday and evening shifts at centers in Jackson (and Sikeston) to help end hunger in the region. Fox 23
- ➤ Community Counseling Center raised over $350 and collected 230 lbs of food during Canned Food Awareness Month to help families facing food insecurity, partnering with the Southeast Missouri Food Bank in Cape Girardeau. The donations will support the monthly distribution of over 1 million pounds of food. Fox 23
- ➤ Community organizations in Jackson are hosting a supply drive throughout March to support Safe House of Southeast Missouri during Women’s History Month — donations must be dropped off at Jackson City Hall, 101 Court St. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until March 27. Fox 23

- ➤ Saxony Lutheran High School opened its new Agriculture Science and Multipurpose Building on Tuesday, Feb. 22 with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by students, donors and community members. The facility — featuring essential classrooms, a large shop with welding booths, restrooms and storage — will also support athletic events. The Cash-Book Journal
- ➤ A historical preservation class at Southeast Missouri State University is giving students hands-on experience to develop plans to revitalize vacant downtown buildings. Dr. Steven Hoffman said the projects have prompted property owners to consider practical solutions for hard-to-revive spaces. KFVS12

- ➤ Saint Francis Healthcare System will host an Occupational Medicine Spring Breakfast on April 8 from 7:45 to 9 a.m. at the Saint John of God Conference Room (211 Saint Francis Drive) where employers and community partners can meet specialists and learn about workplace health services. Fox 23
- ➤ Delta R-V School District is monitoring a rise in flu cases affecting southeast Missouri with student attendance at about 90% as of Wednesday morning while some staff members are absent due to illness. Classes will continue for the rest of the week as officials watch the situation. Fox 23
- ➤ The Community Counseling Center reported 109 people trained in QPR suicide prevention during the first eight weeks of 2026 (compared to 22 in 2025) and will host another large session in March to expand community safety across the region. Fox 23
- ➤ A report by the American Cancer Society finds that colorectal cancer is rising among people under 65 while rates are falling for older adults. Rural Health Inc recommends that residents aged 45 and older talk with their doctors about screening—especially during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Fox 23
- ➤ Seniors in southeast face food insecurity as fixed incomes and rising costs force many to choose between food and medicine.
