COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Crews from Liberty Utilities responded to a natural gas outage that began early Thursday in Jackson, Fruitland, and Gordonville. Severe weather slowed repairs while officials (emphasizing safety) advised residents to report any gas odor immediately.  Fox 23

CULTURE NEWS

  • Later this month, the Gateway Down Syndrome Association’s Southeast Missouri Chapter will host DSA Runway to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day—taking place on March 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at ROOST in Cape Girardeau, where models with Down syndrome will showcase clothing and promote community inclusion.  Fox 23
  • Lisa Nichols, a Heartland native and podcast host, is leading an afternoon book club to discuss insights from her new book 'Something Extra,' inspired by her daughter Ally, who was born with Down syndrome—she won an International Impact Book Award in February. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Cape Girardeau are now $2.99 per gallon as rising crude oil costs and seasonal shifts push prices higher. AAA said tensions in Iran & the switch to summer-blend gasoline are key factors influencing the increase.  Fox 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A portion of downtown Cape Girardeau was placed under a precautionary boil water advisory after a power loss at a treatment facility affected nearly 30K addresses on March 5. The city said no contamination was found.  KFVS12
  • A KYTC contractor will close KY 1099/7th Street at its intersection with KY 125/Union City Highway in Hickman starting Monday, Mar. 9, weather permitting, and motorists will use a marked detour via KY 1463+ work on a new box culvert is expected to continue until mid-July.  Fox 23

HEALTH NEWS

  • A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued for parts of Cape Girardeau after recent water main repairs dropped pressure below 20 psi; residents should boil water for drinking, brushing teeth, or cooking for 3 minutes. The advisory will last for up to 48 hours unless notified otherwise.  Fox 23
  • Staff at Jackson Veterinary Clinic assisted in a challenging birth that led to a healthy calf, with Dr. Fluegge, technician Laura, and intern Emilee working together to ensure the mother and calf recovered well.  Fox 23
