- ➤ Riverside Regional Library and Jackson Schools Libraries will host Jackson Reads on Thursday, Apr. 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the Jackson Band Shell, offering reading time, a book swap, food trucks + storytelling, with snacks provided by Montgomery Bank. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Liberty Utilities restored gas service for about 3,000 customers in Jackson after last week’s storm damage, and crews are working today to complete service restoration for homes and businesses; full service is expected by the end of the week. Fox 23
- ➤ Emergency managers and radio volunteers are launching the SEMO Safety Network Upgrade to keep communication open during severe storms across 13 counties. Officials say the two-way radio system will support storm spotters and first responders and is set to expand by 2027. Fox 23
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ More community members are joining suicide prevention training sessions at the Community Counseling Center that teach how to recognize warning signs and connect individuals to help. Future sessions in May range from one hour to eight hours — anyone can sign up to learn life-saving skills. Fox 23
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Cape Girardeau’s Shawnee Park Sports Complex is getting a $9.7 million renovation to add turf and expand to 13 fields. Phase one will open March 21 — starting a tournament weekend and paving the way for 30 tournaments through November. KFVS12
- ➤ The Howard Aslinger Endurance Run will be held at Arena Park on March 13-14, offering runners of all levels a choice between one-hour, 12-hour, or 24-hour events to support a memorial scholarship for people with disabilities. KFVS12
