- ➤ The Cape Warming Center is seeking a temporary or permanent building and emergency donations—tents, sleeping bags, fire pits, hot dogs and hot chocolate—as freezing weather nears to shelter up to 50 people. The center lost its space at Grace Church and now houses individuals with neighbors. Fox 23
- ➤ SEMO Prom Mothers in Cape Girardeau is accepting donated prom dresses and accessories to help high school students secure gowns and book fitting appointments through its Facebook page; donors may drop off items at Westminster Presbyterian Church (1820 Perryville Rd). KFVS12
- ➤ United Way of Southeast Missouri invites community members to its partner funding presentations on March 26 at 4 p.m. at its office at 16 N. Spanish St, where new nonprofit programs will present ahead of partner recommendations due in early May. Fox 23
- ➤ Autism Awareness of Southeast Missouri will host its first AASM Autism Color Walk & Roll at Jackson City Park on April 26, offering a free community booth and resource area for families, with booths available from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. and the walk starting at 1 p.m. Fox 23
- ➤ Cape Girardeau County Parks is building a temporary entrance — located on Limbaugh Lane — to keep access to Melaina’s Playground during construction. - ➤ Farmer Barry Bean said rising fertilizer prices from the Iran conflict and supply chain issues near the Strait of Hormuz are straining local farmers’ budgets and may change spring planting plans (crop choices are being reconsidered) as the season approaches. KFVS12
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students from Southeast Missouri State University are studying ways to revitalize the vacant historic building at 200 Broadway Street by asking locals for input. They will use survey results to develop recommendations for its future use. Fox 23
- ➤ SEMO's cyber defense team will compete in the Midwest Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition at Purdue University Northwest on Mar. 20 and 21. The team advanced to the regional event after finishing second in the Midwest wildcard round, following months of practice. KFVS12
- ➤ Southeast Missouri State University will hold SEMO Giving Day on March 19 to raise $360,000 for scholarships and campus programs (supporting its Transforming Lives campaign). The event starts with an alumni night on March 18 and a breakfast in Kem Statuary Hall. Fox 23

- ➤ Residents served by Marble Hill South Public Water System must boil water after E. coli was detected in the water supply; the boil water order was issued on Mar. 11 in Bollinger County and will remain until officials confirm water safety. Fox 23
