CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Cape Girardeau man named Shane A. Crenshaw was arrested on March 22 for first-degree assault after he allegedly attempted to hit a wrecker driver with his vehicle near 26 N. Main St. at Blue Diamond Sports Bar — the charge is a felony offense. Fox 23
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ More than 60 second graders from Kelly Grade School visited Blodgett on March 7th to learn about the town’s history by viewing exhibits including a replica steam engine and paintings that show its past as the watermelon capital of the world. The students heard stories of Mr. Marshall who once shipped 1,000 boxcars of watermelons and saw a vault from 1900 used to store money—local resident Blake Wade was honored for continuing the melon tradition. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mayor Dwain Hahs presented a proclamation for National Child Abuse Prevention Month to Alix Gasser on Monday night in Jackson— the proclamation calls for increased efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect and to strengthen families and community support. Fox 23
- ➤ The Cape Girardeau County Commissioners held their first meeting in years at the renovated 1908 Courthouse in Jackson, where they set the new meeting location and presented a history of the building (a few renovation details still wait to be finalized). KFVS12
- ➤ Cape Girardeau voters in the library district will vote on Prop L on April 8. The measure would let the library continue its dedicated tax—approved in 2007—to pay for building upkeep and improved services until the tax expires in 2027. Fox 23

- ➤ Joshua Stroh, a prosthetics representative at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, was honored with the BEE Award for exceptional service in helping veterans get needed prosthetic devices.
