  • Ground-A-Bout will open its newest location at Mercy Hospital Southeast in May—bringing a full menu of coffee, smoothies, teas, breakfast and lunch to caregivers, staff, patients and visitors. The shop will serve as a welcoming space—connecting hospital workers and visitors.  Fox 23

CRIME NEWS

  • Jessica Bigham (36) of McClure was arrested on Tuesday after allegedly stealing two pairs of jeans valued at $149.90 and punching a store employee at The Buckle in Cape Girardeau on March 22 before fleeing into Illinois; she is held at the county jail on a $50,000 bond and will appear in court on Thursday.  Fox 23

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country music artist Mark Wills will perform live at Century Casino and Hotel on May 3 as part of the Century Spotlight Series. Tickets are available and local accommodations can be booked at The Riverview hotel—details announced by the venue.  Fox 23

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kelso C-7 School District has partnered with Southeast Missouri State University—via the SEMO Educators Advantage program to offer discounted tuition for online courses that help teachers grow their skills and support local students.  Fox 23
  • Southeast Missouri State University’s GIS program trains students in mapping, data analysis, and drone use for aerial mapping in Cape Girardeau. The hands-on courses and interdisciplinary lessons prepare graduates for careers in planning, surveying, and law enforcement—skills needed for jobs in a fast-growing field.  Fox 23
  • Southeast Missouri State University will host its 4th annual Future Teachers’ Day on April 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to welcome over 200 high school students who will explore teaching options and use the EDvolution Center—an effort to address the ongoing teacher shortage.  KFVS12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance will join Multi-Agency Resource Centers in several counties to help storm victims. Consumer specialists will be available in Poplar Bluff, Doniphan, Piedmont, Perryville and Pacific from March 27 to March 30 at designated times to answer insurance questions and assist with claims.  Fox 23
