- ➤ The Cape Girardeau community has rallied to support Robin Balogh, a local nurse and teacher battling a rare lymphoma. A fundraiser will be held at Chick-fil-A on April 16 and T-shirt sales will start on April 21 to aid her fight. Fox 23
- ➤ The community gathers today at a send-off event hosted by VFW Post 3838—The Wake Foundation to honor veterans for their service and sacrifice. Fox 23
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Fire departments from Bell City, Advance and Bloomfield responded to an out-of-control field fire at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday that engulfed an outbuilding and nearby brush in Advance — officials later reminded residents to exercise caution during dry, windy conditions until rain returns. Fox 23
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Cape Girardeau police arrested a man for indecent exposure at 9 a.m. on March 27 in the 700 block of Clark Avenue and he is now held pending formal charges. KFVS12
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Perryville High School students will return to class on April 2 after a tornado nearly three weeks ago damaged their main building. Classes will be held at various campus facilities (Old Senior High School, middle school, elementary school, career center) while the cafeteria remains accessible (all areas have tested negative for asbestos). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials announced Thursday, March 27 that contractors will reopen the Cape Rock/Lexington intersection on Monday, March 31—a detour will be in effect and work replacing the curb, gutter, and sidewalks along Lexington between Perryville and Sherwood will continue through summer. KFVS12
- ➤ On March 24, the Cape Girardeau County Commission held its first meeting in the renovated 1908 courthouse after moving from its longtime space at the County Administration Building. The commissioners approved the courthouse chambers — they also addressed issues like recent storm cleanup, a university report, vehicle pricing and sheriff’s equipment funding. The Cash-Book Journal
