COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A Heartland nonprofit is hosting an adult prom—raising funds to support first responders. The event will take place on Saturday, April 12 at Knights of Columbus Hall in Jackson beginning at 5 p.m. with a Fire and Ice theme and tickets priced at $15 per person or $25 per couple. KFVS12
- ➤ Lutheran Family and Children's Services is observing Child Abuse Prevention Month this April to show the need for intervention, support, and healing for Missouri children affected by abuse and neglect. The group offers parenting education and early prevention services — and asks the community to learn about its programs and report any suspected abuse. Fox 23
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A fire ravaged the Saxon Lutheran Memorial visitor center on March 30 and first responders contained the blaze to stop it from spreading—officials say the cause is under investigation and residents are urged to avoid the area. Fox 23
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Quenita Flye-Sadler (46) was charged with two counts of fourth-degree domestic assault after allegedly pointing a BB gun at her roommate and making threatening statements at a Northwoods Court residence around 10:45 p.m. Sunday and is held on a $5,000 cash bond. Fox 23
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City street department crews in Jackson will re-stripe roadways from April through July to improve motorist visibility by painting markings (centerlines, stop bars, parking zones and crosswalks) and using warning signs, flashing lights and barricades. Motorists are urged to give workers space while passing through the work zones. Fox 23
- ➤ Residents celebrated the newly opened roads funded by the Transportation Trust Fund that now offer a smoother drive. The city will repair key roads on Mt. Auburn, Sprigg, William, and Perryville — a move to keep the network safe and well maintained. Fox 23
- ➤ City officials said the repair of Clarifier 1 at the Cape Rock Water Treatment Plant is complete, ending a drop in water production that began last month. The city will focus on long-term improvements and will check Clarifier 2 for future repairs to keep the water supply steady. Fox 23
- ➤ Deputy Chief Randy Davis retires today from Jackson Fire Rescue after 42 years of service — during which the department grew from 4 to 19 full-time staff and emergency incidents increased from 50 to 1,800 — and a retirement celebration is held at the Jackson Civic Center from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. as the community bids him farewell.
