GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Cape County residents will vote on a fire and life safety measure on the April ballot, which calls for a 25-cent tax increase on every hundred dollars of assessed value to fund equipment upgrades and add a third truck with advanced life support for the Gordonville Fire Protection District. - ➤ The general municipal election will be held on April 8 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. with early voting available until April 7 at designated polling sites (Cape Girardeau County Administration Building at 1 Barton Square in Jackson; Cape Girardeau County Satellite Office at 2311 Bloomfield Road), and the ballot will include a contested Ward 2 alderman race in Jackson along with tax and bond measures affecting fire protection, transportation, library services and school facilities (such as the Delta R-V School District project). - ➤ County officials in Cape Girardeau have urged residents to use multiple sources for severe weather alerts rather than relying solely on outdoor sirens and to sign up for notifications by phone call, text, email, or Alexa.
