- ➤ The Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau donated money to the Southeast Missouri Network Against Sexual Violence to fund free forensic interviews, medical exams and counseling services for victims of abuse. - ➤ Flash floods on Friday evening forced water rescues in Wayne, Iron, Cape Girardeau and Bollinger Counties—troopers and fire departments helped trapped residents—and closed bridges on East Independence Street and Sunset Drive over Hubble Creek as crews cleared flooded streets. KFVS12
- ➤ Cape Girardeau police said Bloomfield Road (between Sheridan and Albert Street) reopened after a vehicle crash on the 2000 block occurred on April 4. KFVS12

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Notre Dame Regional High School postponed its Spring musical, The Sound of Music, from Friday April 4 to today at 1 p.m. due to the threat of severe weather — all tickets purchased for the original event remain valid. Fox 23
- ➤ The Southeast Missouri State University Board of Governors approved the demolition of the Dearmont complex and the construction of the new Roy Blunt Health Professions Hall—site preparations will start later this year, demolition will occur later in 2025, and construction is expected to finish by late 2027. The $28,478,400 project will be funded by a mix of federal and state resources including a $10 million award from the Health Resources and Services Administration. KFVS12

- ➤ County assessor Bob Adams said teams are surveying storm damage—caused by severe weather on April 2—with affected residents who have uninhabitable homes able to request a site assessment by May 1 to qualify for tax relief. KFVS12
- ➤ Missouri Task Force 1 was activated today in Poplar Bluff to help local authorities prepare for forecasted flooding. A team of 48 members and 2 canine units will deploy 11 convoy vehicles, boats, and over 100,000 pounds of rescue gear while a DSAR team provides live mapping and situational oversight tomorrow morning—ensuring a swift emergency response.
