  • Cape Girardeau police said 35-year-old Ashley G. Braxton died in a single-vehicle crash on Bloomfield Rd on April 4 when her blue 2020 GMC Acadia left the road and struck a mailbox and a tree in front of a home around 10:58 a.m.  KFVS12

CRIME NEWS

  • On April 6 at 2:13 p.m., the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office was called to a home seven miles west of Doniphan where a barricaded man armed with a knife was first observed and later, around 5:33 p.m., advanced toward officers—officers fired and he was pronounced dead at the scene.  Fox 23

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Clear skies have brought relief to flood-affected areas as first responders (Pilot Dan, Medic Quentin, and Nurse Millie) help Sikeston communities with clean-up efforts. The team is working to restore stability while residents cope with rising waters.  Fox 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bridgett Kielhofner was appointed as Assistant Finance Director for Cape Girardeau effective April 7—she will support Finance Director Lisa Mills and the Finance Department. City Manager Kenneth Haskin praised her strong background in financial analysis, budgeting, and real estate for strengthening the city's finance team.  Fox 23
  • Cape Girardeau Mayor Stacy Kinder, New Madrid Mayor Nick White and Caruthersville Mayor Sue Grantham met Monday at 2 p.m.—the mayors discussed flooding issues, road closures and water rescues as part of a regional effort to monitor Mississippi River levels and address stormwater concerns.  Fox 23
  • Storms and flooding caused a 24-inch sewer main to break near the dry docks over the weekend, and repairs are delayed because high water levels have prevented work from starting. Alliance Water Resources said work will begin Thursday—only a temporary road closure is expected and residents' sewer service will not be affected—while about 20 feet of pipe may need replacement at an estimated cost of $7,500.  Fox 23
