- ➤ On April 12th, the 4th Annual Mythic Race will take place in Blodgett where athletes from Colorado, Florida and Maryland will run a 5K course with over 25 obstacles to raise money for Restore the Wonder Ministries' summer camp for children in foster care. Race winners will qualify for the Obstacle Course Racing World Championships+ the event aims to support summer camp funding. KFVS12
- ➤ United Way of Southeast Missouri is marking its 70th anniversary with a community street party that will have live music, games, and free treats like hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, and cupcakes. The event will be held on April 25th at 3:45 p.m. at (16 N. Spanish) in Cape Girardeau and is free for families. Fox 23

CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Cape Girardeau man, 38-year-old Jimmy Norfleet, was arrested on April 4 after he is accused of firing four shots at a home when he banged on the door and tried to enter through a window until a dresser blocked him and he smashed the doorbell camera before fleeing; he faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon, first-degree burglary and property damage and is held on a $50,000 bond. - ➤ On April 6 at 2:13 p.m., officers from the Ripley County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to a residence in Doniphan where an armed subject barricaded in a room threatened family members and deputies—after refusing to drop his knife and charging the officers, the suspect was shot by two officers and later died from his injuries amid an investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol DDCC. - ➤ A 20-year-old Cape Girardeau man, Keylynn-Lee Curneal, was arrested on April 3 after investigators found over eight grams of raw fentanyl and he admitted he planned to sell some; he is charged with second-degree trafficking and held at the county jail (on a $30,000 bond). KFVS12

- ➤ Notre Dame Regional High School said that Matthew Austin is the valedictorian and Skylar Craft is the salutatorian for the Class of 2025. Austin earned a perfect ACT score and over 400 hours of service while Craft excelled in sports and academics (she is a three-sport athlete and Academic All-State). Fox 23

- ➤ The Missouri Department of Conservation warns local anglers that it is illegal to import, export, sell, purchase, or possess the northern snakehead fish to protect native sportfish. The fish can grow up to 3 feet long and even survive on land—anglers should document and report any catches with photos and location details. Fox 23

- ➤ Cape Girardeau voters cast their ballots Tuesday on a half-cent sales tax measure to renew the Transportation Trust Fund that funds road repairs — the measure earmarks $5.5 million for Mount Auburn Road, $3.5 million for Perryville Road, and $4.5 million for South Sprigg Street and received 2,416 yes votes versus 862 no votes.
