- ➤ On April 12, Southeast Missouri Food Bank and its partner organizations will run mobile food pantries — including one in Cape Girardeau — to distribute food boxes with meat, soup, peanut butter, vegetables and fruit; residents needing assistance should visit the nearest pantry and bring a photo ID and utility bill as proof of address. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A silo fire broke out Wednesday morning at the Buzzi Unicem Alternate Fuels facility at 2524 S. Sprigg, and the Cape Girardeau Fire Department responded at 11:24 a.m.—using four engine companies, two ladder companies and four chief officers, they contained the blaze in under 20 minutes—while crews later removed recyclable material with heavy equipment. - ➤ Preston Jackson, 29, was arrested in Scott County after he attempted a burglary on April 5 and resisted officers by pulling a hammer during his arrest. Fox 23

- ➤ Mercy's Southeast Missouri Hospital College of Nursing and Health Sciences named four new board members—Robbie Guard, market president of MRV Banks, Ann Sprengel, a retired nursing professor, Angela Umfleet, owner of Arnold Insurance, and Gayle Unverferth, a retired registered nurse—to serve three-year terms. The board will set policy to support academic programs and ensure faculty and staff meet national standards. Fox 23

- ➤ Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek and State Representative Barry Hovis will hold a press conference on Friday, April 11 at 1:00 p.m. outside the Cape Girardeau County Courthouse + they will discuss legislative efforts to require public pension systems to divest from foreign adversaries including China, following a December 2023 divestment recommendation by Malek. - ➤ Governor Mike Kehoe ordered U.S. and Missouri flags to be flown at half-staff today at government buildings in Cape Girardeau County, the Fire Fighters Memorial of Missouri in Kingdom City, and state firehouses to honor Whitewater Fire Protection District Chief Garry Moore — he died April 2 while responding to a stranded vehicle after an EF-2 tornado in Delta.
