- ➤ Southeast Missouri Pets is hosting volunteer training today at 3 p.m. at its Weston Street facility so community members can help shelter animals with pet care and fostering; volunteers, including children with an adult, may start assisting right after a brief training. Fox 23
- ➤ Arrowleaf received a $350,000 grant plus a $50,000 match to launch Project Releaf ($400K total project cost), a transitional housing program for crime victims that will offer shared housing, apartments in Anna, and rental assistance for up to two years, and the program will start in May 2026. - ➤ Southeast Missouri State University unveiled a time capsule from Dearmont Hall during its demolition and hosted a viewing at the groundbreaking for Roy Blunt Health Professions Hall on Thursday, April 9. The new hall, which replaces the old building, is set to be completed by late 2028. KFVS12

HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The LemonDrop Long Drive event returns this weekend to support cancer patients in southeast Missouri — it runs from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the TeeHouse Complex on Hawthorne Road and is free to attend. Fox 23
- ➤ Residents spending time outdoors are advised to check themselves and their pets for ticks in tall grass and brush. The Missouri Department of Conservation recommends removing ticks by grabbing the head (to lower the chance of Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever). KFVS12
