ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Today a mock accident was staged by local agencies including the Stoddard County Sheriff's Office, Richland R-1 Public Schools and Essex Fire Department to show the dangers of driving while impaired while Chuck Groshong from Air Evac Lifeteam represented his agency despite their inability to fly in. - ➤ Jackson Fire Rescue responded shortly after 2:09 a.m. to a residential fire in the 600 block of Jackson Trail and quickly contained a basement blaze with mutual aid from local fire departments as all occupants and two pets—one cat given oxygen for smoke inhalation—were safely removed while the building sustained moderate basement and smoke damage and the fire was ruled accidental. - ➤ Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek held a press conference on Friday, April 11 outside the Cape Girardeau County Courthouse to support House Bill 977—this bill would stop state retirement funds from investing in certain foreign countries and could reinvest up to $100 million locally. KFVS12
- ➤ Governor Mike Kehoe said he will ask for a second federal disaster declaration in Missouri within four weeks after heavy storms and flooding began on March 30—teams from FEMA, SEMA, the SBA and local officials will start surveying 20 counties including Cape Girardeau on Tuesday, April 15—to help people get repair help.
