- ➤ Local nutrition centers serving vulnerable seniors are cutting services amid a funding shortfall, with some centers closing on Mondays and switching to frozen meals. Administrators urge community members to attend fundraisers and contact lawmakers to support the centers. Fox 23
- ➤ A partnership between Southeast Missouri State University, Bootheel Progress with Partnership, and a private provider will reopen an unused childcare facility at Sikeston Regional Campus (serving up to 50 families) with the center expected to open in early May to help working parents and boost the local economy. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ DISH Network has kept KFVS12 and Gray Media channels off its service for over a month after giving multiple extensions for events such as the NFL playoffs, the Super Bowl, and the Winter Olympics. Gray Media says DISH repeatedly rejected proposals and now urges customers to help restore the channel. KFVS12
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ VisitCape invites community members to join a Juneteenth celebration on June 20 in Cape Girardeau that will honor freedom, culture, and history. Attendees will enjoy live entertainment, local vendors, and food while having time for reflection and connection. Fox 23
- ➤ Ken Mirly, a local researcher, will discuss the Civil War-era Shawneetown woolen mill on Sunday, May 3 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cape Girardeau County Historical Society’s History Center (102 S. High Street in Jackson) and share insights into its rise and fall. KFVS12
