COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Teams from southeast Missouri will gather in New Hamburg for the 40th Annual Kow Pasture Klassic on April 26, playing a unique golf game in a cow pasture behind Schindler’s tavern with a posting of the colors at noon and an oral auction at 2 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Missouri Veterans Home and the Kenny Rogers Children's Center (the entry fee is $100 for a foursome) (teams choose tennis balls and their own clubs). - ➤ Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri celebrated the first anniversary of LifeHouse in Cape Girardeau on April 19 where the crisis maternity home provided shelter and support for 12 mothers and welcomed eight babies + community volunteers contributed 1,395 hours of service. The organization will hold its LifeHouse Gala on November 1 at the Drury Plaza Hotel Conference Center + it will continue offering prenatal education and life skills training to pregnant women facing homelessness. - ➤ The Cape Girardeau Riverfront Flea Market will host over 90 vendors downtown on Saturday, May 3 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. — featuring sellers of jewelry, crafts, soaps and pet products — while food trucks will offer sno cones, dirty sodas and lemonade — drawing local visitors to a day of community shopping. - ➤ Authorities recovered the body of Tim Hale from St. John's Bayou on April 20 after a fisherman spotted him near County Highway 806 & an autopsy performed Monday identified him while toxicology tests will determine his cause of death. Fox 23
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Cape Girardeau City Council is asking to change the city charter — it would let water rates go up to 15% a year — to collect enough funds for needed water plant repairs, with the change set for the August 5 ballot. The move comes after a failed vote last fall and aims to cover the costs of operations, maintenance, and improvements. Fox 23
- ➤ The city of Jackson is set to launch the SafeAcross initiative to improve pedestrian safety by installing seven Mr. Walker statues and upgrading crosswalk markings and signage. Public Works staff will study crosswalk use and the program will launch Saturday, April 26th — during the annual Park Day event. Fox 23

- ➤ Two boil water advisories are in effect in Cape Girardeau—13 properties in the Ranchito area must boil water until today while 314 properties in the Dalhousie area must follow the advisory until April 25. Fox 23
- ➤ Today, the Community Counseling Center Foundation launched its Get Your Green On campaign to promote mental health awareness in May. Residents can join by participating—using green outdoor lighting, yard signage, and wearing green on Fridays—to support a program that served nearly 7,000 people across five counties last year.
