  • A distinguished group of veterans from World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War will visit Missouri’s National Veterans Memorial on Monday, Apr. 27 at 10:30 a.m. in Perryville — the public is invited to join and thank them.  KFVS12
  • Residents are invited to the 27th annual All-American Soap Box Derby on May 2 at 7:30 a.m. on North Sprigg Street (between Blanchard Elementary School and Bertling Street) as 27 young racers compete and winners qualify for an international race in July in Akron, Ohio.  KFVS12
  • Old Town Cape Inc. announced its second annual Farm to Table Dinner (from 3 to 7 p.m.) set for Sept. 20 on Spanish Street, bringing local food and community together in Cape Girardeau.  Fox 23

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Cape Girardeau Regional Airport will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 6 at 8 a.m. for new twice-weekly nonstop flights to Pensacola by Contour Airlines, with local leaders & a water cannon salute before the first flight at 8:45 a.m.  Fox 23

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA reported that Missouri gas prices declined for the second straight week, with the average for regular unleaded falling to $3.61 per gallon—still 75 cents above last year's average. Drivers in St. Louis paid $3.83 while those in Joplin paid $3.40.  Fox 23

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Missouri Department of Conservation reminds residents to leave baby wildlife undisturbed this spring as mothers stay away during the day to protect their young from predators. Intervene only if a pet poses a threat, moving the animal gently so the mother can still locate it, and avoid unauthorized wildlife rehab.  KFVS12
  • A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck Missouri’s Bootheel at 12:59 p.m. today along the New Madrid Seismic Zone, with residents feeling noticeable shaking but no damage reported.  Fox 23
  • Today, a 4.0 earthquake struck Permiscot County about 7 miles underground near Cooter and was felt across the Heartland + reaching as far as Evansville. The New Madrid Historical Museum noted it is only the second magnitude 4 quake in the area since 1991.  KFVS12
