  • Acee’s Neighborhood Market & Deli on Perryville Road will partner with Southeast Missouri Pets for a monthlong fundraiser in May when a portion of sales from designated fuel pumps is donated to support local animal welfare. Customers can join by using the marked pumps (1 and 2) at the store.  Fox 23
  • Community members helped clean up downtown during Old Town Cape Inc.'s annual spring litter pick up, boosting local cleanliness. Organizers said they are preparing for a busy upcoming event season + more volunteer opportunities.  Fox 23
  • An adult prom (18+) for Badges Give Back will take place Saturday, May 2 at Jackson Knights of Columbus Hall, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and festivities featuring a cash bar, 50/50 raffle, DJ entertainment, and the crowning of a prom king and queen.  KFVS12
  • Cape Riverfront Market will open for its 2026 season on Saturday, May 2 at 35 S. Spanish St. Vendors will offer breakfast, produce, crafts, live music, themed festivals and early shopping hours (7:30 a.m. for seniors and people with disabilities) every Saturday from May through Oct.  Fox 23

  • Three Rivers College Patrons of the Arts will host Tomáš Kubínek at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center on May 4 with the show starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and available online (Sides Construction sponsors the event).  Fox 23

  • Two SEMO Speech and Debate members earned quarterfinal placements at the National Speech Championship today (their first national success) with Trey Lintner advancing in dramatic interpretation and Erin Jenkins in informative speaking.  KFVS12

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Conservation advises residents to leave newborn wildlife undisturbed this spring, noting that animals appearing abandoned are often being monitored by nearby parents. Officials warn that handling these animals may lower their survival chances and caution calling licensed experts if an animal is injured.  Fox 23

HEALTH NEWS

  • Heartland dermatologist Dr. Sindle stated seasonal allergies are causing skin irritation and eczema flare-ups for Cape Girardeau residents. He recommends daily antihistamines, showering after outdoor exposure, and moisturizing while urging care for severe reactions or tick bites.  KFVS12
  • Saint Francis Healthcare System announced that certified physician assistant Ashlynn Hinkle joined Advanced Orthopedic Specialists in Cape Girardeau today. Hinkle brings neurosurgery experience from fast-paced trauma-focused settings and graduated from South College in Knoxville (2019).  Fox 23
