  • The Southeast Missouri Food Bank will run mobile food pantries in Carter County at Ellsinore General Baptist Church (9:30 a.m. May 2), Dunklin County at Malden Community Center (11 a.m. today), and New Madrid County at The Garden Shed in Gideon (9 a.m. May 2).  Fox 23

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Better Business Bureau warns Cape Girardeau residents to research contractors for storm repairs after severe weather caused regional damage today, advising homeowners to contact insurance providers + obtain multiple estimates before signing repair contracts.  Fox 23

EDUCATION NEWS

  • SEMO has named Dr. Brian Donavant as supervisor of its law enforcement academy following an investigation into alleged misconduct during exams. He will hire a new director as the program—operating since 1987—works to maintain quality training.  KFVS12
  • Jackson High School students qualified at a district contest — several will advance to the state technology competition on May 1-2 at Lake of the Ozarks.  Fox 23
  • The St. Vincent High School and eighth-grade bands earned excellent ratings at the Six Flags Music Festival on April 24 and will perform at the spring concert on May 5 at 6:30 p.m. in the school gym (officials said judge feedback will help students improve).  Fox 23

  • Route 61 near Howardville will have a one-lane restriction for bridge maintenance from 8 a.m. Monday, May 11 to 3 p.m. Thursday, May 14, while U.S. 62 near Information Age Park will see a lane closure starting at 8 a.m. Friday, May 1 and ending by 2:30 p.m.  Fox 23
  • Gov. Mike Kehoe proclaimed May as Beef Month to honor Missouri’s cattle industry during a ceremony at America’s Heartland Packing in Wright City, noting the sector supports nearly $2 billion in sales and over 40,000 jobs.  Fox 23
