CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Cape Girardeau police say they recovered a stolen vehicle on April 28 after officers spotted it near Highway 74 and South Sprigg Street and tried to stop it — the car sped away before it was later found with a broken axle on the 800 block of Hackberry. KFVS12
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Cape Girardeau’s Old Town Tunes at Twilight concert series will start on May 9 at Ivers Square, with free outdoor shows weekly at 7 p.m. through June 13 while a second series will run from Aug. 1 to Sept. 5; if it rains, the concerts will move to Gospel Life Church at 817 Broadway St. Fox 23

- ➤ Southeast Missouri State University will hold its spring commencement ceremony on May 10, where 1,565 graduates will earn degrees—963 undergraduate, 573 master’s and 29 specialist. Cedric “The Entertainer” Kyles, a 1987 graduate who stars on CBS’s The Neighborhood, will receive an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts and serve as the commencement speaker at 10 a.m. Fox 23

- ➤ Several Cape Girardeau County offices have moved to new, renovated space at 1908 Courthouse, 100 Court Street in Jackson—Public Administrator’s office is now on the first level, with the Auditor, Treasurer, Human Resources, and Road & Bridge offices on the second and the County Commissioners, Commission Chambers, and Clerk’s office on the third. The Cape Girardeau County Commission now holds meetings on Mondays and Thursdays at 9 a.m., while the Recorder of Deeds, Collector, and Assessor remain at Barton Square. KFVS12
- ➤ The Cape Girardeau County Emergency Management Long Term Recovery Committee will host a resource center on May 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Delta FEMA building (324 N Liberty St, Delta) to help those affected by the April storms; attendees must bring proof of identification, address, and photos of storm damage (ID, address, and photos) while local groups including the Cape Girardeau County Health Department, The Salvation Army and the American Red Cross offer support.
