  • Thirteen students from St. Vincent De Paul High School performed at the MSHSAA State Music Festival on May 1, hosted by the University of Missouri-Columbia — a percussion octet earned a silver rating, clarinetist James Unterreiner with Terry Edwards received a gold, and the SVHS Brass Quartet earned a bronze.  Fox 23
  • Southeast Missouri State University senior Stephen Casey won the Missouri Composers Project in the Orchestral Open category when his piece 'The Dear King' was performed by the Columbia Civic Orchestra on April 13 (he received a $500 honorarium from the Sinquefield Charitable Foundation).  Fox 23
  • Cape Girardeau Public Schools is considering a new recovery high school to help students recovering from addiction — the district seeks local input through a short survey that closes Friday, May 16 at 5 p.m.  KFVS12
  • The Cape Girardeau Public School District is asking stakeholders for feedback on a new Recovery High School to support students recovering from substance misuse—if approved, the school will provide a safe, substance-free setting and meet state diploma requirements.  Fox 23

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Nine small earthquakes have been recorded in southeast Missouri along the New Madrid fault line since April 29, with tremors noted near Marston and Howardville. Experts say the activity is common and not a concern, and they will continue to monitor the fault.  Fox 23
