COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Deputies from the county sheriff’s office joined local partners for a children’s fishing event over the weekend in Cape Girardeau County. Families enjoyed fishing, games and community interaction during the outdoor activity.  Fox 23
  • The Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau Foundation will host its annual 5K, 10K and 1-mile fun run on Saturday, June 13 at Arena Park as part of the Cape Road Runners Grand Prix. Registration runs from 7 to 7:45 a.m. (10K begins at 7:30 a.m.) with proceeds benefiting programs for women and girls.  Fox 23
  • The Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau Foundation will host its annual Zonta 5K, 10K and 1-mile fun run/walk on Saturday, June 13 at Arena Park — registration opens at 7:00 a.m. at the 4-H Building on 410 Kiwanis Drive, and the race supports programs empowering women and girls.  KFVS12
  • Saint Francis Foundation honored three Donors of Distinction at its annual Grace Notes donor appreciation dinner in Cape Girardeau on Thursday, May 7. The honorees (First State Community Bank, Jim and Teresa Maurer, and Ann Wescoat Ritter) were recognized for their support of healthcare in the region.  Fox 23

CULTURE NEWS

  • Missouri State Fair announced events for the new Governor Michael L. Parson Arena, including rodeo, military exhibits, animal races and jousting. Construction will finish in July, events start Aug. 13, and arena tickets go on sale May 19 (children 5 and under receive free entry to select events).  Fox 23

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Amid rising gas prices, local drivers are switching to electric vehicles for lower fuel and maintenance costs (charging ranges from $8 to $19) as a government map shows nearby stations; they say this shift brings more consistent expenses compared to fluctuating fuel prices.  KFVS12

HEALTH NEWS

  • Four Rivers Behavioral Health will join a Columbia University study on supported employment for adults on the autism spectrum. The research will include nearly 200 adults in Kentucky and run for about two years while the program already aids roughly 100 participants annually.  Fox 23

  • The Cape Girardeau Rotary Club held its 27th annual Soap Box Derby on May 2, where winners Zander Nelson (Stock) and Eli Fortner (Super Stock) will advance to the 2026 World Championship in Akron this July.  Fox 23
  • Local business owner and cheer coach Billy Hoskins of Phantom Athletics in Jackson leads high school, college, and all-star teams to state titles and national honors. He currently coaches at Kelly High and will help launch the program at Notre Dame Regional, emphasizing discipline + community values.  Fox 23
