  • The Cape Riverfront Market will take place today from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 35 S. Spanish St — local vendors will offer fresh produce, baked goods, food, homemade crafts and artisanal items while music by Jamie Gooch, demonstrations by SEMO NASV and Standard Wellness and face painting entertain visitors.  Fox 23

CRIME NEWS

  • A shooting on May 9 left one person dead and another with a non-life-threatening leg wound in Cape Girardeau, and police later identified 27-year-old Deandra Leeann Patterson—charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm while held on a $1 million cash-only bond.  Fox 23
  • Oak Ridge R-VI School locked down on Friday after a former student posted Spotify lyrics threatening to shoot students, and law enforcement took the student into custody while parents picked up their children at the office windows—no one was allowed inside.  Fox 23

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Southeast Missouri State University Board of Governors approved a new 90-credit Bachelor of Science in criminal justice that lowers the credit requirement from 120 to 90 and integrates the Law Enforcement Academy Certificate as elective credit (minors remain optional). The program will be reviewed by the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education and the Higher Learning Commission (enrollment is expected next academic year).  KFVS12
  • Southeast Missouri State University has partnered with Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority to boost student transportation this fall — the campus shuttle program will keep its current routes while expanding service to local shopping and medical centers.  KFVS12
  • A new partnership between Southeast Missouri State University and Cape Girardeau County Transit Authority is set to expand shuttle service so students can ride farther and more easily. University officials say the deal will boost transportation access—improving service for students in the coming months.  Fox 23

HEALTH NEWS

  • A certified therapy dog named Bocce visits the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center weekly and comforts patients while brightening staff mood — the program began about two years ago.  Fox 23
