  • Nonprofits in Southeast Missouri face rising demand as funding challenges continue, and United Way of Southeast Missouri recently announced a two-year cycle to support local programs in Cape Girardeau + surrounding counties.  Fox 23
  • The American Tractor Museum will host its annual Old Timers Day event in Perryville on Saturday, May 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will feature antique tractor displays, games, demonstrations, children's activities, a pedal pull, live music, and food vendors — admission is free with optional donations.  Fox 23

CULTURE NEWS

  • Children and families are invited to a Children’s Day event on May 16 at Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site. It runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and features historical activities like candle dipping, corn shuck doll making, games, and washing clothes (1860s style).  Fox 23
  • Cape Girardeau's third annual Heartland Gaming Convention takes place May 30-31, drawing gamers, artists, vendors, and families for tabletop, trading card, and role-playing games (with interactive activities for newcomers and veterans).   • Old Town Cape is inviting local and national sculptors to submit work for a public art program running along Broadway from June 2026 to June 2027. Applications are due by June 5, and a kickoff event with art demos and live music will take place at Historic Ivers Square on June 27.  KFVS12

  • Southeast Missouri State University unveiled a new photo installation in front of the Student Recreation Center ahead of commencement weekend — the project was funded by Student Government.  Fox 23

  • Governor Mike Kehoe congratulated Hannah Harper on her American Idol win, saying her talent and hard work made Missouri proud. He spoke with her via FaceTime before the finale to offer good luck and warm wishes for her achievement.  Fox 23
