COMMUNITY NEWS

  • KFVS12 won two Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards with a hard news story called 'Dying with Dignity' and an investigative piece named 'Murder on Main Street'—announced on May 16—and both awards will move on to the national contest in August.  KFVS12
  • The Cape Girardeau Police Department has partnered with Dunkin’ Donuts to raise funds for local Special Olympics athletes—100% of donations will go directly to support them.  Fox 23
  • Cape Safari Park in Cape Girardeau is set to reopen after a challenging year and continues to honor the legacy of its late founder Vicki—although the reopening date has not been announced. Its traveling petting zoo, offering pony and camel rides as well as educational programs, will keep operating for local visitors.  Fox 23

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A destructive storm system tore through Scott County on Friday, causing widespread damage, two deaths and about 10 injuries with some in critical condition—emergency crews continue to clear debris and downed power lines while a Red Cross shelter remains open for displaced residents.  Fox 23
  • A tornado damaged several restaurants in Delmar—Esca, Nixta, Florentin and the future site of Olio—and the venues will remain closed this weekend and indefinitely while owners plan to rebuild, with all staff safe.  Fox 23

CRIME NEWS

  • On May 15 at 8:22 a.m., police in Cape Girardeau responded to a domestic assault when a woman said Christian Clay-Seay hit her on the head and face as she tried to leave his home— a witness confirmed the attack while she sustained a laceration on her knee and elbow and a bump on her head, with the suspect showing scratches on his face and nose.  Fox 23
  • Cape Girardeau police charged 19-year-old Lizandro Sanchez-Carmona of Moline with first-degree assault and armed criminal action after a stabbing incident at AC Brase Arena on April 20 — he was arrested May 15 by the US Marshals Service in Moline, is held without bond and awaits extradition.  Fox 23
