- ➤ The 14th annual Veterans & Fallen Heroes Poker Run is set for Saturday, June 7 with registration opening at 10:00 a.m. and the ride beginning at 11:00 a.m. The route starts and ends at Midtown Cape on Independence St with a stop at Cape Girardeau Veterans Home, and the afterparty offers auctions, raffles, a burnout competition, a food truck, and live music at 7:00 p.m. with proceeds benefiting veterans. - ➤ Cape Splash will reopen on Saturday, May 31—one week later than planned—after crews repaired storm damage caused by the EF1 tornado on May 20, though some features will remain offline. KFVS12
- ➤ An 86-year-old Korean War veteran had trouble entering his home after a fallen tree damaged his deck during recent storms; his neighbor called for help when the ambulance struggled to access the house. A local group and a crew from All Types of Construction quickly built a new deck (with a ramp) and he is now recovering in the hospital (ill). Fox 23

- ➤ Cape Girardeau County property owners will receive reassessment notices in early June that reflect changes in property values for the 2025 tax year—local market sales data are used to set these values. Most properties will see an average 5% increase and owners may appeal until June 30—formal appeals must go to the Board of Equalization by July 14. Fox 23
- ➤ Cape Girardeau City Council voted unanimously on May 28th to recommend American Airlines to offer six round-trip flights a week to Dallas-Fort Worth and Chicago O’Hare using 65-seat jets — a change that requires approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation before Contour Airlines’ contract expires on October 1 — and will be finalized after DOT review. The move aims to update air service at Cape Girardeau Regional Airport. KFVS12
