  • Starting May 30th, the American Red Cross began providing financial assistance to families and individuals in Southeast Missouri who suffered major damage from May storms—help covering essential needs like clothes, food, and temporary shelter. Affected residents can call 1-800-REDCROSS or visit the help website to see if they qualify.  Fox 23
  • On June 7, the Cape Riverfront Market will host the Marketeers Festival from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 35 S. Spanish, where children will enjoy nutritional activities, games, face painting, henna tattoos — and live music by Amber Duley — while a tent by The Bank of Missouri offers planter painting and market tokens up to $3 for local produce.  Fox 23
  • On May 30, Community Counseling Center hosted its first Community Impact Luncheon to mark Mental Health Awareness Month — the event celebrated behavioral health services and honored Cape Girardeau Public Schools as the 2025 Community Partner of the Year. Attendees learned about the center's services, heard a recovery story, and were joined by Representative John Voss and Missouri Department of Mental Health representatives — the event underlined the center’s ongoing commitment to mental health and substance use support.  Fox 23
  • The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center will host free June programs that include a virtual session on mushroom foraging on June 4, in-person archery on June 7, a virtual paddle sports guide on June 11, family fishing on June 13, teens outdoor yoga and canoe borrowing on June 14, and a Nature Rx yoga session on June 25 — advance registration is required for most events.  Fox 23

  • AAA warned residents that the summer period from Memorial Day to Labor Day is the '100 Deadliest Days' for teen drivers — a time when about one-third of fatal teen crashes occur, and they urged Cape Girardeau parents to set safe driving rules.  Fox 23

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Century Casinos entered a deal with BetMGM to offer Missouri sports betters a mobile sports betting app under Century's license. The app will launch in December pending licensing and regulatory approval—this move aims to keep tax dollars in Missouri and support local operations in Cape Girardeau.  KFVS12

CRIME NEWS

  • Scott City man Brendan Arnold—25 was taken into custody on Wednesday after returning to North Main Street following a disturbance; police said the victim received minor injuries and Arnold now faces a Class D felony charge with a $10,000 bond.  Fox 23

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Restoration work will soon start on Perryville High School football fields damaged by a tornado on May 14 — crews will strip, re-sod, and replace the irrigation system to ensure safety. The project is funded by the school district’s insurance — it is expected to be finished in time for football practices and games to resume this fall.  Fox 23
