COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Brandy McIntire, a marketing consultant at FOX23, joined the Community Counseling Center Foundation board to support mental health services in southeastern Missouri. She brings 23 years of experience from work with the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce and United Way — skills that are expected to benefit the board.  Fox 23
  • American Melody arrived Tuesday, June 3rd at 8 a.m. to start riverboat docking season in Cape Girardeau — the ship, which holds 180 guests, was viewable along the riverfront while passengers took tours downtown and it set off at 8 p.m. It will be followed by American Serenade, which is scheduled to dock Tuesday, June 24th.  KFVS12

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Cape Girardeau Fire Department responded to a duplex with moderate smoke, quickly extinguishing a fire in a second-floor bedroom—five residents were displaced and received help from the American Red Cross.  Fox 23

CRIME NEWS

  • Perry County authorities are searching for a missing 25-year-old white man with autism who was last seen Monday at 6 p.m. near Hwy B and Hwy K in Shakertown—he is about 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighs 195 pounds, and was wearing a multicolored hoodie, blue jeans and a black hat, and anyone with information should call Central Dispatch at 573-431-3131 or 573-547-4576.  Fox 23
  • Thomas Bean was arrested after an alleged assault at a Cape Girardeau residence on May 31 — the victim reported that he grabbed her hair, pulled her to the ground and struck her head with a pistol, causing a right knee laceration, a swollen left cheekbone and a head hematoma.  Fox 23
  • The Perry County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help finding a missing 25-year-old man with autism who was last seen on June 2 at 6 p.m. near Highway B and Highway K in Shakertown—he is 6 feet 2 inches tall with brown hair and brown eyes, wore a multi-colored hoodie, blue jeans and a black hat, and has a seizure condition that left him without his medications.  KFVS12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Southeast Missouri State University’s Law Enforcement Academy is undergoing a $2 million renovation funded by a U.S. Department of Justice grant that will add 3,000 square feet of training space and new simulation environments—boosting its ability to train officers. The project aims to upgrade facilities and strengthen public safety after the academy trained over 3,000 officers since 1987.  Fox 23

  • Today, Saint Francis Healthcare System praised nurses Grace Hellman, RN and Taylor Heskett, RN for quickly spotting stroke symptoms in a patient being discharged—prompting immediate administration of TNK to restore blood flow and reduce brain damage.  Fox 23
