Jackson Blvd. on Wednesday at 12:59 p.m. and quickly extinguished a small electrical fire on the roof — the health department will inspect the restaurant before it can reopen.

On June 11, Frederick Stecz blocked a woman from entering her apartment when she complained about loud noises and he brandished a machete—police arrested him at 8:15 p.m. and charged him with a felony for unlawful use of a weapon and a misdemeanor for second-degree harassment, with a $15,000 cash bond.

A new Smithsonian exhibit called Voices and Votes: Democracy in America opened at Malone Park Center for the Arts in Sikeston to show how the 1939 sharecroppers strike brought tenant farmers together—its display uses local history to explain ongoing economic challenges and will run until July 22.

Dr. Keenan Kinder— a 1993 Jackson High graduate and former teacher— has been named the 14th superintendent of Jackson R-2 Schools and will focus on safety and school growth.
