- ➤ Old Town Cape will host its annual fundraiser 'Revivify: Farm to Table' on Sept. 21 in downtown Cape Girardeau—featuring local food producers, chefs, a social hour at 3 p.m., a four-course dinner at 4 p.m., and a program at 6 p.m. Proceeds will support the group’s mission to preserve downtown. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a fatal crash occurred on southbound Interstate 55 9 miles north of Fruitland on June 13 when a 2022 Volkswagen Taos left the road and struck a rock bluff, killing the 34-year-old driver from Pevley and urging anyone with information to call Troop E headquarters. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Thirteen Southeast Missouri State University communication disorders students traveled to Belize City to offer speech-language services and hearing screenings to children with autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, and other challenges at Therapy Volunteer International Clinic and Stella Maris School — the trip was part of a study abroad course that broadened their global perspective while earning college credit. - ➤ Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Clark Parrott said that teaching teens to put their phones down is key to cutting deadly crashes during the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer when one third of teen-related traffic deaths in 2023 occurred—he warned that distractions, speeding and impairment make driving much riskier on our roads.
