- ➤ KFVS radio began on June 22 from Oscar Hirsch’s home on Frederick Street, laying the foundation for local broadcasting nearly a century ago. - ➤ Comfort Keepers will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 25 at 11 a.m. at 61 Doctors Park to mark its National Day of Joy and 25th anniversary — the event, in partnership with the Cape Girardeau & Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce, will offer food, drinks and special treats from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fox 23

- ➤ A 23 year old woman named Sanaa-Azzariya McAfee was arrested Tuesday for allegedly throwing hot grease and stabbing a victim on June 8 at an apartment on South Spring Street; she faces charges (first degree assault, armed criminal action and motor vehicle theft) with a bond set at $100,000 and her next court hearing scheduled for Friday. - ➤ The award-winning film Sugarhouse, shot on location in Cape Girardeau and Perry Counties, will premiere on June 28 at 7 p.m. in Perryville and again on July 18 at 7 p.m. in Jackson, with tickets costing $13 & a Q&A session with the cast and crew following each screening. KFVS12
- ➤ The sixth annual Heroes for Kids Comic Con will be held July 19–20 at Perry Park Center in Perryville with vendor booths, authors, photos, silent auctions and a costume contest for kids and adults—proceeds will benefit the Captain David Dorn Foundation and the Perry County Community Task Force. Celebrity guests include voice actor Scott Innes, Disney Animation Artist Philo Barnhart and WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler, and local police, fire and EMS personnel will also attend. - ➤ The Missouri Department of Conservation is buying mature seeds from the public for the George O. White Tree Nursery—seeking aromatic sumac, serviceberry, black cherry and white oak—and paying between $0.75 and $8 per pound; seeds must be dropped off at the MDC Southeast Regional Office or the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center. - ➤ Cape County commissioners received the Riverside Regional Library's 70th annual report on June 12, which showed a strong financial year with improved collections, a 54% rise in programs, renovations at the Jackson branch, and plans to upgrade computers. The report also noted that Auditor Pete Frazier was named as the voting delegate for the National Association of Counties—Andy Meyer was appointed to a four-year term at the library and Kendra Eads resigned from the Domestic Violence Authority Board.
