The Jackson community is rallying to help local businesses damaged by a fire two weeks ago by holding a Rise — Rebuild Uptown Jackson event where vendors donate part of their sales and neighbors unite in support.

Cape Splash Family Aquatic Center in Cape Girardeau will join the world’s largest swim lesson on June 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.—the free lesson will teach children ages 2 to 10 basic water safety and swim techniques to help prevent drowning.

On Wednesday, Sikeston families received free food, cleaning supplies, toiletries and toys provided by local churches and the national nonprofit Convoy of Hope to ease summer burdens.

Approximately 300 to 400 families were served as volunteers delivered supplies directly to cars—boosting community support.

The Route 66 Corvette Club made its annual donation to Missouri’s National Veterans Memorial in Perryville, and the memorial thanked the club—saying the gift supports its work to honor nation’s heroes.

The local Better Business Bureau warned Cape Girardeau residents that scammers are using enticing social media ads to delay online orders by blaming tariffs—buyers may end up owing extra fees to retrieve their packages, and the scam targets many types of products.

Eric Saxton, a 23-year-old from Benton, Kentucky, was arrested in Tennessee after being released from a medical facility and charged with attempted murder of a first responder, possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia following a June 16 incident in Murray where he allegedly charged at officers — he now awaits extradition while investigations continue.

Residents in Benton may face low water pressure over the next few days as the city tests valves on its water towers — details on the cleaning and repainting project will be shared later —.
