Good morning, Cape Girardeau. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 21st of June.

CULTURE NEWS

  • A team of paranormal investigators led by Scott Poole is renovating an old funeral home at the intersection of Middle & Bellview to serve as the new American Ghost Project headquarters — the space will have a commercial kitchen and a social area for coffee and creative ideas. The owner contacted Poole after nearly 20 years of vacancy to clear the building’s spirits — new tenants with similar experiences have already signed up.  KFVS12

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Conservation’s George O. White Tree Nursery is asking local citizens for mature seeds from trees such as aromatic sumac, serviceberry, black cherry and white oak to make up for a shortage of seed collectors. The collected seeds—sold at $0.75 to $8 per pound—will be used to grow native trees for habitat restoration and local park projects.  Fox 23

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Monday's city council meeting, Mayor Stacy Kinder said Transamerica Corridor advocates pushed a proposal for Interstate 66 to fill a gap in our highway system and boost the local economy. She added that rising construction costs — along with the challenge of getting several states on board — are hurdles as officials gather the needed data to move the plan forward.  KFVS12

HEALTH NEWS

  • Temperatures are forecast to soar over the region this weekend and into next week as officials urge residents to stay cool and hydrated. Sikeston DPS Sergeant Tyler Rowe says local parks with splash pads — and cooling centers at the Salvation Army or libraries — are available to help anyone experiencing heat stress.  Fox 23
