Good morning, Cape Girardeau. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 25th of June.
COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corporation shelter is at full capacity as record numbers seek emergency housing during the summer heat and a shrinking budget worsens the need. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Better Business Bureau warns Cape Girardeau residents to ignore fake text messages claiming to be from state agencies about traffic tickets & urging immediate payment through suspicious links. Consumers should verify the message by contacting the agency directly & report any scams to the proper authorities. Fox 23
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Transportation will reduce traffic on Route H from Route HH to County Road 160 near Vastus on Monday, June 30 and Tuesday, July 1 for pavement repairs — Route 75 will close in Mississippi County for a bridge replacement between Route 105 and County Road 339 starting Monday, July 7 with reopening on Friday, Oct. 31, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will extend the closure of KY 2595/Lakeview Church Road near the Kentucky Dam Marina in Marshall County on Monday, June 30 for a new bridge project expected to finish by the end of August. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Illinois confirmed its first human West Nile virus case this year in Wayne County, and health officials warned residents in southern Illinois and southeast Missouri to use bug spray and remove standing water. They said the virus spreads only through mosquito bites — so residents should watch for fever, headache, and muscle pain and get tested if symptoms last. Fox 23
- ➤ Saint Francis Healthcare System has released its 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment report, which shows that the top health needs in Cape Girardeau, Scott and Stoddard counties are chronic disease, affordable medications, healthy food access and healthcare capacity.
