- ➤ Orchard Drive Elementary upgraded its outdoor donation boxes in Jackson so community members can now easily donate or collect essential items— the update is in effect. Fox 23
- ➤ Cape Girardeau will host a free Parks and Recreation Day event on July 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Osage Centre—featuring ice cream, prizes, crafts, games and vendor activities while also coinciding with Playmo's birthday as part of National Parks and Recreation Month. Fox 23
- ➤ Southeast Missouri Modelers Association members will demonstrate radio-controlled aircraft and let the public fly them at Galaxy Park (441 Gizmo Lane) on July 10 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The free event will offer a hands-on experience with the hobby. KFVS12

- ➤ Save A Lot on S. Sprigg St. closed Tuesday when its independent owner chose to shut down the store, leaving southside residents to travel farther for fresh groceries. KFVS12
- ➤ Ulta, Carter's and PetSmart are now open at West Park Mall in Cape Girardeau as part of a multiphase redevelopment that is refreshing the site—landscaping, sidewalks and asphalt work have been completed. - ➤ Authorities arrested 18-year-old Trey Sutton for first-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the June 22 fatal shooting of David Chamberlain at the intersection of 5th Street and Warren Avenue—Jeremy Sutton and four others were also charged with tampering with physical evidence or controlled substance possession. - ➤ Anthropology students and faculty from Southeast Missouri State University solved a cold case by identifying remains found in the Mississippi River near Portageville in June 2022; advanced DNA testing—carried out by Othram confirmed the remains belonged to Robert J. Eaton, a 26-year-old missing from Elizabeth, Indiana, and his family recovered his remains in May as investigators continue to examine the circumstances. Fox 23

- ➤ The Viking Mississippi docked along Cape Girardeau’s riverfront on June 25 just before 9 a.m. as its first stop of the 2025 season—built in 2022 with a Scandinavian design, it holds 386 guests and 147 crew and left for its next destination at 5 p.m., with returns scheduled for July 30 and October 1.
