- ➤ Today at Osage Centre, Cape Parks and Rec is hosting a free event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — featuring birthday cake, ice cream, crafts, games, and prizes — to mark National Parks and Rec Month and Playmo’s 12th birthday; local vendors — including Busch’s Pet Products and Encore Dance Academy — will also join the celebration. - ➤ Volunteers from the Leopold Fire Protection District left Tuesday, July 8 to help with flood relief in central Texas. Chief Billy Castile, his son Karsen and two others drove out with support—donations came mainly from Leopold and Marble Hill communities. KFVS12

- ➤ Police responded to shots fired in the 600-block of Woodbine Place early Saturday at 1 a.m. and took three people into custody—Hayden Bowman, 20 from Scott City; Devon Raffety, 20 and Marqueas Corbitt, 21 from Cape Girardeau—on charges of assault, unlawful use of a weapon and receiving stolen property as the investigation continues. - ➤ Three men were arrested in connection with vehicle break-ins after police responded to suspicious activity on July 5 at Oak Street Apartments in Scott City—Jeremiah Twiggs II and Vaquon D. Johnson of Cape Girardeau face charges of tampering while Atyren Z. Daso of Murfreesboro is charged with felony stealing and resisting arrest. Fox 23

- ➤ Old Town Cape Girardeau will host the 2025 Downtown Sculpture Exhibition—six large-scale sculptures will be on display along Broadway from September to June. Artists from local, regional, and national areas can apply free of charge by August 1 and will be notified by August 5. Fox 23

- ➤ The District 32 Board of Education approved temporary classrooms at Perryville High School after tornado damage on March 14 — Flex TC will erect classrooms, science labs and offices on the school’s gravel lot with the facilities expected to be ready by Aug. 20 as repairs continue. Fox 23

- ➤ Cape Girardeau County is expanding its GIS to let residents view county land data and boost emergency response in outer neighborhoods. Officials say the new system will soon integrate with the highway department — helping dispatch resources faster during emergencies. Fox 23
