Cape Girardeau police said on July 23 that two armed suspects robbed a woman from her vehicle—stealing a backpack and tackle box—early in the morning on the 700 block of Morgan Oak Street before fleeing.

Authorities charged three suspects—Austin D.

Larose, Vaquon D. Johnson, and Atyren Z. Daso—in early July for vehicle break-ins and thefts, and police are working with Cape Girardeau and Scott City departments to recover stolen property and locate additional firearms.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office is investigating a physical altercation involving the Scott City mayor and a local business owner that happened on July 21 after a council meeting+ officials reported no injuries, no arrests, and that findings will be sent to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.

Today at noon, Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony at Shawnee Park Sports Complex for the new Youth Outdoor Sports Complex, which will feature five youth softball/baseball fields and two football/soccer fields.

The project—funded by the 2018 Parks, Recreation and Storm Water Tax—will open in 2026 to serve local leagues and tournaments.
