- ➤ Yesterday, Cape Girardeau Parks & Recreation held a groundbreaking ceremony at Shawnee Park Sports Complex for a new Youth Outdoor Sports Complex funded by a 2018 tax that features five youth-sized softball and baseball fields and two adjacent football and soccer fields. The facility will open in 2026 and host recreational and travel leagues, tournaments and field rentals. Fox 23
- ➤ A dedication marker for Cheryl Anne Scherer is scheduled for Aug.16 at 11 a.m. in front of Rhodes Convenience store in Scott City — Scherer went missing on April 17 and the investigation into her case continues. Family, friends, and the public are invited to join in remembering her. Fox 23
- ➤ A 6-inch water main break at the intersection of Bloomfield and Spring roads has closed the road — crews are repairing the pressurized line to avoid a boil water advisory. Fox 23

- ➤ If voters approve a charter amendment on August 5, Cape Girardeau will raise water rates by 10% in the first year, 15% in the next two years, and 5% in the fourth year—funding improvements to the water system for 99% of residential customers. City officials warn that if the amendment fails, the system will continue to deteriorate and may push for water conservation measures or privatization. Fox 23
