- ➤ A juvenile suspect was taken into custody after a shooting early Sunday morning in Cape Girardeau — police arrived at 1:30 a.m. on the 2800-block of Themis and treated both the victim, who was grazed in the chest during a fight when he retrieved a knife and stabbed the suspect, and the suspect, who later shot him, with non-life-threatening injuries while recovering a stolen firearm. - ➤ After 60 days of collecting signatures, a group of seniors dropped off a petition with more than 3,000 signatures for a property tax freeze at the clerk’s office in Jackson today. The county clerk said that once at least 2,041 valid signatures are confirmed, the petition will be sent to county commissioners at a meeting on August 14—if approved, it will appear on the November ballot.
